run4planet is a free social movement across Australia and New Zealand where participants make a personal pledge or easily dedicate a personal exercise or social activity to climate action for climate relief.

In 2023 run4planet moves beyond a running event. You don’t need to run, you just need to care.

In our busy lives, climate action can become lost in everyday life.

We're bringing the climate conversation to everyone.
Join the movement - make an impact.

run4planet participants are called CliM8tes. run4planet aims to engage 20,000 CliM8tes in 2023 with the support of dedicated city ambassadors located in 21 Australian and New Zealand communities.

run4planet is working with several national participation partners including reef tourism operators, reef charities, Reef Guardian Schools and Councils and social influencers.

In 2023 run4planet is supported by internationally renowned Coral Scientist Ove Hoegh-Guldberg and Australian running legend Steve Moneghetti.

Our History

run4planet, the movement, started as the Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival in 2011 with a fundraising focus on front-line projects making a direct impact on the preservation of the Great Barrier Reef.

run4reef, as it was known, would soon attract a focus more on the message around climate change and the Great Barrier Reef than the running. For the next decade mass reef bleaching, catastrophic fires and devastating floods made national headlines and forced the climate change conversation amongst climate scientists and politicians.

In 2023, run4planet brings the climate conversation to everyday Australians and New Zealanders inviting individuals to participate in a free and easy way. Free participation for all of us to better understand climate change and join in the climate conversation.
